2016 Running YEar in Review

As 2016 comes to a close, I am pausing to reflect on my running year – the good, bad and the ugly.

Some of my favorite things that happened in my running and racing life this year are:

• Coming back strong from injury (fractured fibula)
• Running Ragnar del Sol with strangers and making new friends
• Experiencing the beauty of Sedona in the winter
  
• Raising over $500 for St. Jude's Childrens Hospital (training for Rock N Roll Dallas)
  
• Picking up 2 new states  - TX and WA
  
• Running 3 half marathons in 9 weeks (without injury!)
  
• Conquering the Whiskey Row Half Marathon, something I never thought I would do
• Participating in the United Relay
• Solo trip to WA to run the North Olympic Discovery Half Marathon in spectacular scenery
• Ran a strong Charlevoix Half Marathon in MI with my family at the finish
• Captaining my own Ragnar Michigan team and making new friends (and meeting Twitter friends in real life!)

The year also brought many challenges:

• Torn meniscus which resulted in
  • Surgery and months of not running
  • Learning I have osteoarthritis and need to dial back on my running
  • Weight gain that led to slower finish times
  • Having to pull out of the Revel Canyon City Marathon
• Sadly, No new PRs this year

Things I’m looking forward to in 2017:

• Ragnar TX with friends
• Ragnar Michigan again
• Getting back to half marathons (hopefully!)
• Becoming stronger and smarter with running
•
